Melissa Appel, LCSW, CADC,
CERTIFIED PRT SPECIALIST
When you experience emotional or physical pain issues, they can produce a seemingly unyielding state of fight, flight, freeze and fear. Challenges stack up, leaving us “stuck” and overwhelmed.
Many people are unaware of breakthroughs that lead to relief – and can’t even imagine relief is possible. I became a therapist to support people in understanding and addressing these challenges, using an array of therapeutic techniques that help them formulate new perspectives and frameworks to lead happier lives. I help provide people with a pathway and a plan that will focus on gaining freedom from pain or uncomfortable emotions.
I am a Certified PRT specialist, using a new and proven technique that research has shown to significantly reduce, even eliminate Neuroplastic Pain and Anxiety.
I’m an MSW graduate of Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor (CADC) in Pennsylvania. I hold licenses in New York as well and am practicing in Pennsylvania with in-person and teletherapy offerings. I also teach courses in continuing education on clinical topics at Stony Brook School of Social Work (SUNY) as well as train professionals to become licensed addiction counselors in a partnership between NY’s Office of Mental Health (OMH), NY’s Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) and Stony Brook University.
I trained at Bellevue Hospital Center and Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York, working with complex psychiatric, substance use disorder and aging populations.
I have maintained a Yoga & Meditation practice for decades and am a Certified Kripalu yoga instructor. I utilize techniques from spiritual and somatic practices in conjunction with MBSR frequently to help clients learn to find relief.
